Broadband installation notice.

July 24, 2024
In the coming weeks, Conxxus, a Metro Communications Company, will have construction crews installing fiber optics throughout our Village. This will include digging and boring in the Right of Ways and Easements.
The Village Board, employees, and I have worked to ensure that the Village is protected from any damage that this excavating may cause to our water/sewer infrastructure, our roads, and our citizens’ property. The permit and work process seems straightforward on paper; however, we have talked with some other villages and towns about their experience with the construction process.
So, to ensure that all of this goes smoothly, I ask that you, our citizens, help us by informing us about any situation that arises you are unsure about after reading the material we have provided. We can’t be everywhere in the village, and we will not be monitoring social media for complaints. We encourage you to call us at 217-247-2239 or stop in the office.
On our Village Website, I have added the map, given to us by Metro Communications, that shows where the work will be in the village. I have also added the Permit that lays out the “rules” to be followed by Metro as well as the phases of construction.

The Village is not profiting from this broadband expansion nor was this a decision we initiated. The expansion comes about as part of Governor Pritzker’s Connect Illinois along with the Biden-Harris Administration’s “Internet for All” “to provide affordable, reliable, high-speed internet for everyone in America by the end of the decade”. Which means another option for phone, television, and internet in the Village besides satellite and Comcast.

Metro Communications has assured us that they will help us in any way to advance their project with the least number of problems but not every scenario can be predicted. So, let’s all work together for the best outcome.
Respectfully,
Shawn Schendel
Village President
